Separating operational settlement from structural risk at an industrial plant

26,000 measurement points across an industrial site distinguished settlement that was a normal consequence of operations from settlement that was not.

An industrial minerals facility sits on sabkha — coastal saline flats that settle readily and complicate any assessment of what is normal.

PS-InSAR identified 26,375 persistent scatterers across the area of interest, around 15,000 of them within 2 km of the plant. The central production area showed settlement consistent with the extraction process itself, while the built structures were assessed separately against it.

The value was in the separation. A single settlement figure across the site would have conflated an operational process with a structural concern; resolving them apart meant attention went where it was actually warranted.
